There are intransitive verb and transitive verb in English


This  grammar thing is quite a important for passive sentence , participle , gerund etc


Please memorize the verbs and when student speak incorrectly , correct their sentence.

 

1.marry

2.answer

3.marry with

5.discuss about

6.answer to

7.Tom will marry Jane.

8.We will discuss it later.

9.The teacher will answer the questions.

 

Korean student are confused with the followings and  sometimes even teachers are confused as well

 

1.marry-    marry with (x)

Ex. I want to marry her because she is beautiful.

 ‘merry’ is the verb (used with object) in disctionary

 

In passive sentence “to” show up [ be married to ]

 

2.discuss -   /discuss about (x)

Ex.The group discuss the subject about natural environment.

3.reach – reach to(x)

Ex.We will reach the summit after four hours.

4.accompany - / accompany with (x)

Ex.You accompany your parents?or not?

5.greet -  greet to (x)

Ex.He will greet you tomorrow,He likes you.

7.Comprise - /comprise of (x)

Ex.The group comprise three parts.

* please  not confused with the following verbs

7.rise vs raise

Ex. The sun rises at the place. ( intransitive )

       I will raise the question to him. ( transitive )

8.arise vs arouse

 Ex.The problem arises when we attend the class.

His attitude arouses our anger. ( transitive )

9.lie  vs  lay

Ex. I will lie on my sofa. . ( intransitive )

 

      I will laid patient on the bed. . ( transitive )
