KOREAN PLAYER MAKING HER MARK IN TURKEY
Korea’s Kim Yeon-kyong accomplished another achievement in her volleyball career with the Fenerbahce Grundig team in Turkey. She proved that she is still a great player after recovering from a heel injury. The international athlete contributed to her team’s first win of the Spor Toto Champions Cup. She was named MVP based on her outstanding performance with 31 points and five blocks.
On Oct. 15, the Fenerbahce Grundig and the VakiBank Istanbul teams went head-to-head in Ankara, Turkey. The winners of the national league and the Turkey Cup compete in the Spor Toto Champions Cup. Fenerbahce Grundig was the winner of the two competitions, so the team faced VakiBank Istanbul, which was the runner-up. At the Baskent Volleyball Hall, players for the both teams gave their best on the court with intensity. Fenerbahce finally defeated VakiBank 3-2 (25-20, 19-25, 17-25, 25-14, 15-8). Kim’s team aims to win the 2016 CEV DenizBank Volleyball Champions League. The team is counting on her aggressive attacks as one of its key players.
Kim, who appeared in Korea’s female professional volleyball league in 2005, has played for the Fenerbahce women’s volleyball team since 2011. She also represents Korea on the world stage.
